Power of Movement benefits arthritis and autoimmune disease research in Canada. Our mandate is to affect change through movement, raising vital dollars for cutting edge research priorities in Canada. Funds raised through Power of Movement initiatives benefit the Arthritis & Autoimmunity Research Centre Foundation, as well as The Arthritis Society in certain parts of Canada.
Power of Movement was founded by the Arthritis & Autoimmunity Research Centre (AARC) Foundation, which is part of University Health Network (UHN)). AARC's research collaborations span across Canada and around the world, as some of the best researchers strive to find answers for autoimmune conditions which affect countless around the globe.
Power of Movement was created organically through the commitment and dedication of staff and volunteers - the magic happened when people started to listen:Because of Power of Movement's largely youthful demographic, AARC Foundation is carrying its important message to a whole new generation from coast to coast. Supporting research does make a difference. Being pro-active about your health is vital. Doing both can change the future of our own healthcare, one breath at a time.
Leading an active life is one of the most important management techniques for people impacted by arthritis; using the right techniques to exercise helps build muscle and maintain flexibility and range of motion, which are all critical in helping individuals manage the pain and impact of arthritis. The Arthritis Society is proud to work with an initiative that encourages more Canadians to be active while also raising funds to support much needed arthritis research. The Arthritis Society empowers the nearly 4.5 million Canadians with arthritis to live their lives to the fullest by combating the daily limitations of arthritis. In the last 60 years, The Society has invested $165 million towards arthritis research to develop better treatments and, ultimately, find a cure. The Arthritis Society's mission is "to search for the underlying causes and subsequent cures for arthritis, and to promote the best possible care and treatment for people with arthritis". A portion of funds from the Vancouver mega-session benefit the BC chapter of the Arthritis Society.
